Diana's Bath

A Day Trip to Diana’s Baths is a perfect summer hike from Cottage Place on Squam Lake where the hardest part is picking a pool to relax or cool off in. It’s a classic New Hampshire outdoor adventure, with a series of stunning natural waterfalls and pools nestled in the White Mountain National Forest in Bartlett, NH.

Just about an hour’s drive from Holderness, NH, this iconic destination offers hiking, swimming, and a scenic day immersed in nature — perfect for families, couples, or solo travelers looking for a refreshing escape.

Wake up to the charm of lakeside living here at Cottage Place on Squam Lake. Whether you’re in a cozy cottage or a suite just steps from the shore, mornings here start with crisp mountain air, the sparkle of Squam Lake, and the energy of a day full of adventure ahead.

From Cottage Place, the drive to Diana’s Baths Trailhead in Bartlett, NH is just under 60 minutes. It’s a scenic ride along Route 113 and the Kancamagus Highway — perfect for leaf-peeping in fall or cool shade in summer.

Look for the parking lot on West Side Road — it can fill up on weekends, so aim to arrive early or go mid-week. If there is a wait, it’s typically 30-45 minutes on busy days and it moves fairly quickly.

The trail to Diana’s Baths is an easy, well-maintained 0.6-mile walk on a wide gravel path, suitable for all ages and skill levels. Along the way, you’ll be surrounded by towering pines and the calming sounds of rivers and streams.

Once you reach the falls, you're greeted by a dreamy stretch of cascading pools, sun-warmed granite ledges, and gentle waterfalls. The only hard decision of the day? Deciding which natural pool to cool off in first — each one is more tempting than the last.

Whether you're dipping your feet in the cold mountain water, sunbathing on the rocks, or climbing upstream to find your own peaceful perch, there’s something magical about this place.

Spread out your towel or find a rock ledge to enjoy your lunch from Squam Lake MarketPlace. Don’t be surprised if you end up staying for hours — the area is both energizing and incredibly calming.

Please remember to pack out everything you bring in. Diana’s Baths is a protected site, and keeping it clean helps preserve its beauty for others to enjoy.

After a sun-soaked day of swimming and exploring, head back to Cottage Place on Squam Lake in time to relax by the lake, enjoy a glass of wine or local beer, and maybe even roast marshmallows at our fire pit.

Whether you stay in or venture out for dinner at one of Holderness’s local restaurants, you’ll end the day feeling recharged and full of New Hampshire magic.

Tips on What to Bring to Diana’s Baths:

Packing for your hike is simple, but a few essentials will make your day much more enjoyable:

  • Sturdy walking shoes, hiking sandals, or water shoes (optional but helpful for slick rocks)

  • Reusable water bottles

  • Swimsuit and towel

  • Sunscreen and bug spray

  • Snacks or a packed lunch

  • Camera or phone for capturing the views

  • Cash for parking ($5 day pass at the trailhead kiosk)
