The Transition from Summer into Early Fall

Billie Agey • September 9, 2026

Hello September

September brings a change of pace to Squam Lake. After a busy summer filled with long days on the water, afternoons at the beach, boating, and visitors coming and going, the area begins to settle into early fall. The weather can still be warm enough to enjoy the lake, but the mornings and evenings start to cool down. It’s a great time to spend a day outside, explore the Lakes Region, or simply enjoy a slower day at Cottage Place.

September also marks the beginning of some of our favorite New England fall traditions. Local fairs start popping up throughout the region, craft and art shows return for the season, and farms begin welcoming visitors for apple picking and pumpkin picking. Before long, the landscape around Squam Lake will start to change as the leaves take on their fall colors.

There’s something familiar about this time of year. Maybe it’s a trip to the local fair, picking apples with the family, walking through a craft show, or bringing home the perfect pumpkin. These are the traditions many of us grew up with, and they have a way of making fall feel comforting, familiar, and warm. September gives us the opportunity to enjoy a little bit of everything. There’s still time for lake days and outdoor adventures, while the first signs of fall begin to make their way into the season.

Open Year Round

While summer may be our busiest season, Cottage Place is open year round. Each season brings something different to Squam Lake and the surrounding Lakes Region, from fall foliage and winter activities to spring weekends and summer days on the water.

We offer several booking packages throughout the year, designed to make planning your stay even easier. You can explore our current packages and book directly through our website.

Cottage Place offers a unique hybrid experience that combines the comfort and amenities of a boutique property with the privacy and flexibility of an Airbnb style stay. Our contactless check in and check out allows you to arrive on your own schedule, settle in, and enjoy your time at the property without the need for a traditional front desk experience. It’s a simple, private way to enjoy your time on Squam Lake while still having access to the amenities and service of a small property.

It is exactly why the Mid-Week Escape Package at Cottage Place on Squam Lake has become one of our most requested stays.

Glamping has become a popular way to enjoy the outdoors without giving up comfort, but not all glamping experiences are created equal. In many places, “glamping” means a tent with upgraded bedding or a rustic cabin with shared facilities and limited privacy.
